INTAKE MANIFOLD WALNUT CARBON BLASTING/VACUUM

We are specialists in Carbon cleaning in Cape Town. At Racing Technik we are the Official and only Carbon Doctor Branch in Western Cape. Carbon Doctor procedure utilise walnut carbon blasting/vacuum process as it is both cost and time affective guaranteeing the shortest turnaround in order to get the vehicle back on the road. Other methods currently used necessitate the use of strong chemicals and metal brushes that damage piston rings and valve stem seals, this is especially applicable to spray-in high revving products such as Seafoam

This unorthodox method requires the inlet to be soaked overnight creating both a time delay for the customer as well as facing corrosive risks on aluminium components. We offer walnut carbon blasting/vacuum services that have proved itself as the most cost efficient method worldwide which was designed, introduced and approved by BMW.

OUR CLEANING PROCEDURE

The walnut blasting is done without major engine stripping, we remove the intake manifold to gain access to the valve stems. The engine is then rotated ensuring the valves that are cleaned are fully closed to prevent any debris entering the cylinder bores. The special cleaning system fits perfectly into the intake port, linked to an industrial vacuum and the walnut blasting equipment. Crushed walnut shell granules about 0.5 millimetre in diameter are then blasted directly on the valves and intake port, the walnut shells are hard enough to remove the carbon but not hard enough to damage the valves or intake port. The vacuum cleaner sucks out both the carbon & walnut shells. This carbon cleaning process is repeated several times until clean and repeated for each intake.

We specialise in Carbon cleaning on Audi, BMW, Porsche and Volkswagen.

Carbon Cleaning FAQs

Is engine carbon cleaning worth doing?

Yes. A cleaner engine enhances fuel efficiency, helping you save money on fuel costs. By burning fuel more effectively, it also reduces the release of harmful pollutants from your vehicle. Additionally, regular engine cleaning can prevent excessive carbon buildup, which can lead to costly repairs. Keeping your engine clean is a proactive way to avoid potential issues and maintain optimal performance.

How do I know if my car needs carbon cleaning?

If you notice a decrease in fuel efficiency, loss of engine power, or rough idling, your engine might need a carbon clean. Increased exhaust emissions or a check engine light could also indicate carbon buildup affecting your vehicle’s performance. Additionally, engine knocking sounds may suggest that carbon deposits are causing pre-ignition issues. Regular maintenance, including timely carbon cleaning, can help prevent these problems and keep your engine running smoothly.

Does engine carbon cleaning clean injectors?

The carbon cleaning process effectively eliminates deposits from key engine components, including the combustion chambers, exhaust ports, fuel injectors, and fuel pressure regulators.

How often should I carbon clean an engine?

Although there are no strict guidelines for the frequency of engine decarbonisation, it is commonly recommended to perform a carbon cleaning approximately every 29,000 kilometres. This helps ensure that your engine remains free of carbon deposits and operates efficiently.

Does carbon cleaning improve fuel consumption?

Carbon cleaning can enhance engine performance by reducing fuel consumption by up to 15%, cutting emissions by 50%, and lowering the risk of breakdowns.

How long does a carbon cleaning take?

Carbon cleaning typically requires between 1 to 2 hours, although this duration may vary based on the extent of carbon buildup and the specific cleaning method used.

Does carbon cleaning clean the EGR?

The EGR valve will be cleaned if it is present and operational (and not blocked off). However, some of the residue that accumulates in the pipework may still be present.

Does a carbon cleaning clean turbo?

If a replacement turbo, whether new or reconditioned, is required, we recommend following up with a comprehensive 3 or 4-stage carbon cleaning service. This helps ensure that the excessive carbon buildup caused by the turbo issue is thoroughly addressed, preventing potential future problems within the engine.

What engines need carbon cleaning?

GDI engines typically require carbon cleaning every 96,000 kilometres or even sooner, depending on factors such as driving habits, regular maintenance, and the quality of air and fuel. These variables can influence the rate at which carbon accumulates.

Do petrol cars need carbon cleaning?

Over time, petrol engines accumulate undesirable deposits in critical areas. These deposits include carbon buildup in certain locations and sticky substances such as tars, gums, and varnishes in others.

Does engine flush clean carbon build up?

If you frequently use low-octane fuel and notice a decline in acceleration and overall performance, consider performing an engine flush to remove scale and carbon deposits. This is particularly important if you have been delayed in changing the oil and observe hardened crust on the head or camshaft.

Does carbon cleaning improve performance?

An engine carbon clean enhances performance, boosts fuel efficiency, and lowers emissions.

Can carbon build up cause misfire?

Carbon buildup can accelerate wear on your vehicle, leading to slower responses in cold weather. Although less common than other issues, carbon accumulation can cause engine cylinders to misfire, resulting in performance problems such as stumbling or a loss of speed.

Does idling cause carbon build-up?

Frequent low-speed driving and short trips can cause the engine to run at lower temperatures, leading to incomplete combustion and subsequent carbon buildup. Similarly, prolonged idling can also contribute to the accumulation of carbon deposits.

Can carbon buildup destroy engine?

Carbon buildup can cause premature engine damage and result in various issues such as reduced fuel efficiency, stalling, engine knocking, rough idling, black exhaust smoke, and overheating. Additionally, it can lead to malfunctioning sensors, triggering a check engine light. If your vehicle is exhibiting these symptoms, addressing the problem with high-quality oil and fuel alone may not be sufficient; a more comprehensive solution may be necessary.
